One of my favorite bottle forms paired with an interesting, abstract, Japanese-style brush decoration. Unfortunately, this one has suffered some battle damage -- think cat jumping onto an end table, sliding, sweeping all contents onto the floor, bottle first, large river rock second. A little superglue saved it from following in the footsteps of Humpty Dumpty.

The porcelain was centered and two opposing stoneware strips were inserted before throwing. This bowl has no exterior glaze, the colors and blushing were provided by the soda and reduction kiln environment. The perfect bowl for all your tiger butter.

The glaze on this bottle was provided by the wood ash floating in the kiln. The atmosphere provided a nice blush on the roughly applied white slip and dripping ash deposit on the side.

I'm a huge fan of early American Colonial pottery, there's something about the lines and the simplicity of pieces intended for everyday use. This bottle is one of my favorites from a run of experiments with bottle shapes and wood ash water glazes.
